Today at work I had the opportunity to help a special ed. student take a test. He can read, but only very small, simple words that he can sound out. So his "regular" teacher asked me to take him out and help him with the test. So I look at it and there are three FULL pages he is expected to read and answer questions about. She told me I could read him the questions but not the text. I was stunned. So he sat and looked at three pages full of words that he couldn't read and we expected him to answer the questions? He had the same chance as a monkey to do well on this test. I just don't get it!!!

I don't get it - are they not realizing the irony of what they're asking?! Having helped out in my kids' classrooms a lot, I often have seen the regular teachers basically "pass off" the children with needs to someone else to deal with. (Not every teacher, but some.) Sad. Those are the ones that hang-up our kids and affect them for years to come. UGH! So frustrating!!
How frustrating... it really does make you wonder what the point is? Did you cheat and read him the text anyways...:)
So dumb! I just wanted to say hi. I read your page. Love all of the updates. Thanks for sharing.
